Last Month over 200 school children braved the winter snow and rain to join the South Devon National Trust Rangers for their fortnight of schools activities. New Year’s Day Dip At Wembury

Posted by: Hollie Ferris    Tags:  National Trust South Devon Countryside, Swimming, Wembury    Posted date:  January 7, 2013  |  No comment

It was a sunny morning at Wembury Beach, anticipation was high and the atmosphere buzzing, as a crowd gathers for the annual first swim of the year. Ranger Lorna Sherriff and myself agreed to do the swim in a warm cosy office a few months ago, but as we stood there on a fresh winter’s day apprehension set in! Every year a member of Wembury’s local community Terry Clarke organises a New Year’s Day dip for all of the public to join in. Year by year the news of the event gets around and participation increases, this year there looked to be over 200 people braving the chill of the sea!

With the schools back and a definite Autumn feeling in the air, the summer madness is over for this year. June and July have been action-packed months for the team here in South Devon, with lots of activities and events being held alongside our daily estate work.  With the tourist season upon us, we have been working hard to ensure the footpaths are cut and accessible, but please get in touch with us if you come across any that are needing attention. Some local residents and the South Hams Society continues to do a fantastic job cleaning the beach at South Milton: a big thank you to all the individuals who work hard to ensure that they  are clean and enjoyable for everyone at this busy time of year,...
